TRUE FOB™ Training: Bed Packaging Standards

1. Introduction to Packaging Guidelines

TRUE FOB™ has developed packaging guidelines to help suppliers design solutions that survive global shipping and reduce damage claims. Proper packaging protects both the product and the TRUE FOB™ brand reputation.

2. Supply Chain Hazards

Products are handled 10–22+ times before reaching customers. Packaging must protect products stored vertically, horizontally, or stacked flat. Cartons require a 3" black Line to Ground marking, 2" from the bottom edge, for safe storage and handling.

3. Inner Packaging Requirements - Headboards & Footboards

  • Cover all finished surfaces with 1/16” Microfoam Poly Sheeting.
  • Use corrugate, foam, and injection molded plastic corner protection.
  • Protect all top, bottom, side, and edge areas with cushioning filler matching corner thickness.
  • Install skids on open-ended designs to prevent carton collapse when hand trucked.

4. Inner Packaging Requirements - Bed Rails

  • Cover finished surfaces inside and outside with Microfoam Poly Sheeting.
  • Package rails facing each other with a layer of poly sheeting between them.
  • Use cushioning filler between L-brackets to prevent abrasion.
  • Protect all edges and voids with filler material.

5. Assembly Hardware and Installable Components

  • Installable parts (legs, posts, finials) must be individually wrapped and packed in inner cartons.
  • Bed slats should be packaged with the footboard and cushioned properly.
  • Hardware packs must have a visible red streamer extending outside the carton.

6. Outer Carton Requirements

  • Use a two-piece telescoping carton or Five Panel Folder (FPF) design.
  • Seal cartons with 2” adhesive tape (no staples allowed).
  • Apply all TRUE FOB™ required carton markings and labels.
  • Print dotted "cut lines" where safe to cut open cartons without damaging the product.
  • Attach "Fragile Handle with Care" labels if products contain stone or glass.
