Assembly Hardware Standards Training
Learn the TRUE FOB™ certified assembly standards — metal-to-metal connections, labeling practices, and customer safety systems.
1. Metal-to-Metal Assembly Hardware
All customer-assembled products must use metal-to-metal fasteners. Wood screws are NOT permitted unless specifically exempted. Bolts must have a 4mm Allen socket head for quick power tool installation.
- Metal-to-metal fasteners required.
- No wood screws unless exempt (e.g., KD dining chairs STRECHERS).
- 4mm Allen socket heads required.
2. Preventing Loose Fasteners
Use flat washers, helical split ring lock washers, and pre-applied thread locking adhesive to keep fasteners secure but serviceable.
- Flat washer + lock washer used together.
- Thread locking adhesive applied during production.
3. Captured Assembly Hardware
Captured bolts, held with a threaded washer, must be used where design allows. This prevents lost parts and speeds up customer assembly.
4. Cupholder Inserts
Dual-layer cupholders must have a permanent plastic insert and a removable #304 stainless steel insert with rolled, polished edges.
5. Glass and Fragile Labels
Tempered glass must have a static cling label. Cartons with fragile items must display "Fragile Handle With Care" labels on three sides. A "Do Not Hand Truck" label is required when glass faces out.
6. Level Me Labels
Products with adjustable legs must have a "Level Me" sticker on at least one leg to alert installers.
7. Tip-Over Restraints and Labels
All tip-over kits must use metal cables, not plastic. Kits must pass ASTM F3096-23 standards and include clear instructions with illustrations and a parts list. Manufacturer's name and production date must be labeled on all hardware kits.
